Tiny Tot Room

During this year of your child’s life, you will see many changes in his/her development. These changes will happen in different ways and at different times for each child. Some of the transitions you see are:

  • Sitting in a high chair to sitting at the table in a chair
  • Using fingers to pick up food and eat to using a bowl, plate, and spoon
  • Drinking from a bottle to drinking from a cup with a top
  • Sleeping in a crib to sleeping on a cot
  • Taking two naps a day to taking one nap (usually at the same time each day)
  • Saying a few words to speaking in short sentences
  • Learning to walk to running and improving gross motor control
  • Completing simple activities to mastering more complex activities

We have many routines and games that guide your child to learn these things as she is ready. For example, we read and talk constantly so they can hear words used and pronounced properly. We do many activities outside and inside that help promote physical development of the large muscles used in gross motor activities. We also enjoy getting messy in our daily activities, so please be prepared for many fun sensory experiences.

The Tiny Tots will test limits frequently because they want to be sure they know what the limits are. We follow the High/Scope curriculum in conjunction with the Conscious Discipline(R) program. High/Scope provides the daily routine and structure so our Tiny Tots feel secure in knowing what comes next during their day. The Conscious Discipline(R) program creates our safe School Family environment so that daily conflicts become teaching moments for children. With patience and respect, a good self-image and confidence are encouraged in the children, A bit of humor and a great deal of love, support, and consistency add up to a very positive and beneficial environment in which your child will continue to grow in all ways.

Rest assured we expect to see “separation blues.” Plan to stay a few extra minutes until your child is settled into the environment, especially if you are dropping off during a transition. We will comfort and help him/her to feel secure and loved. You are welcome to call to check in at any time to make sure your child is okay.

We are glad to have your family joining our class!
