Conscious Discipline® Workshop Scheduled

The LB director has scheduled The final Conscious Discipline® workshop of the school year for Wednesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m.. The class, titled “Say What? The Language of Problem Solving,” uses the High/Scope Approach to problem solving and teaches Conscious Discipline skills.

Participants will learn how to empower victims so that others will treat them with respect, and how to empower children to find the attention and encouragement they seek in positive, helpful ways. Friends, neighbors, and co-workers welcome! Attendance at previous workshops is not required. The cost is $25 per person or $40 per couple. Register by emailing Mandy: director@littlebeginnings.org.

Family Literacy Council Holds Family Event

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia will host its 7th Annual Reading: A Family Affair event on Saturday, March 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the James Lee Community Center.

The event is a magical ride that will transport you to many faraway places, with 11 local performing artists and Clifford the Big Red Dog! Download the RAFA Poster, and share it with your friends and colleagues to help spread the word about this great family event. A suggested donation of $5 per family at the door will benefit the Literacy Council’s Student Scholarship & Advancement Fund.

January/February Issue of Small Talk

The newest issue of the LB newsletter, Small Talk, is now available. This issue focuses on problem solving, and allowing children to make mistakes and learn from them. In addition, read updates from the classrooms.

Little Beginnings Child Development Center, located in Arlington, VA, is recruiting a highly qualified candidate to serve as the fifth Executive Director in its 27-year history. Little Beginnings is a cooperative child care center and is a financially secure non-profit 501c (3) corporation with 59 enrolled children and a waiting list of more than 200 children.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education/Administration or related field preferred; with 5 years minimum experience in child care/preschool or related settings; Training in High Scope and/or Conscious Discipline desired.
